Texas A&M names 12th Man for 2024 season

Texas A&M had an update to make to the 2024 roster. The Aggies have a new No. 12 on the squad.

Sophomore defensive lineman Nana Boadi-Owusu is Texas A&M’s 12th Man for the 2024 football season. Boadi-Owusu’s teammates were fired up to hear the news from first-year coach Mike Elko on Monday.

Elko said the team vote for the 12th Man was “pretty unanimous.”

Boadi-Owusu is aware of the number significance’s at Texas A&M. The 12th Man tradition dates back to E. King Gill in 1922. The original 12th Man, Gill was pulled from the stands to be on the bench in case he was needed.

The Texas A&M student body has represented the 12th Man in the stands, ready to help the team if called upon. The No. 12 jersey tradition is attributed to celebrated coach R.C. Slocum.

“It’s a blessing really,” Boadi-Owusu said, sporting his new jersey. “Not only to be recognized by my teammates, but coaches. Just getting the opportunity to represent what this number stands for at this prestigious university – just thankful.”

Boadi-Owusu enters his third season with the program. He joined in 2022, earning Aggie Defensive Scout Team Honors while taking a redshirt. Last season, Boadi-Owusu was a member of the 12th Man Kickoff Team.

Texas A&M opens the Elko era in the spotlight, hosting Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 7 in the preseason Coaches Poll.
