With the 2024 college football season only weeks away, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman released his annual CFB “Freaks list,” featuring some of the best college football players at every position. However, the offensive and defensive line often populates the rankings year after year.
Making the list for the second consecutive year, Texas A&M sophomore offensive lineman Chase Bisontis started nearly every game at right tackle during his 2023 freshman season under former head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Under new management, first-year head coach Mike Elko recently stated that the 6-foot-6, 320-pound mauler would officially switch to guard with the return of right tackler Reuben Fatheree II, which was reportedly the plan since he took over the program.
Possessing elite strength and athleticism, Bisontis should thrive at right guard, especially in the run game, as he recently squatted 605 pounds for three full reps. Remember, he’s a teenager, folks. According to Feldman, Bisontis is due to take the next step in his development:
“A 6-6, 320-pound strongman from New Jersey who deadlifted 615 pounds as a high schooler, Bisontis earned a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman team last fall and has wowed the new Aggies staff. Bisontis, No. 86 on last year’s list, has bench pressed 445 pounds and hist 17 MPH on the GPS. This offseason, he squatted 605 pounds for three reps, but A&M’s veteran strength coach Tommy Moffitt said Bisontis could have done it 10 times.”
Needing to vastly improve from last season’s results, Texas A&M’s interior offensive line looks to be a strength with Bisontis moving inside.
