COLLEGE STATION, TX (FOX 44) — In the midst of the stellar season on the mound, Texas A&M relief pitcher Evan Aschenbeck has been named as a finalist for the Stopper of the Year award.
This season, Aschenbeck has been one of the best pitchers in the country for the Aggies, as he is tops in the country in both ERA (1.64) and WHIP (0.83). He also leads the SEC with seven saves, and has recorded 65 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .190 average.
The Stopper of the Year Award goes annually to the best relief pitcher in the country, and Aschenbeck is one of two finalists from the SEC this season, along with LSU’s Griffin Herring.
The Stopper of the Year recipient will be announced via a news conference on Friday, June 14, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
