TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) — Texas A&M University-Texarkana is welcoming two new colleges and a new school to campus.
A simulated hospital has been part of the nursing program for around five years. University leaders believe interest in the program will increase with the new College of Nursing.
“They are going to bring needed healthcare providers to the community. We are going to be able to gain more local individuals that can stay here and practice here and again help with our healthcare outcome in the community,” said Dr. Heather McKnight, dean of the College of Nursing.
The university also is creating the Honors College and the School of Professional Education and Community Engagement.
Leaders hope the new programs will attract top students to the university.
“Students who were high-performing students who have done well in high school or community college or another university are going to want to come here to get those opportunities to enhance their already valuable degree,” said Dr. Craig Nakashian, dean of the Honors College.
These additions are expected to make TAMUT and the community stronger.
“It allows us really to cater to the work force needs of our region, both in Texarkana and East Texas. So we are absolutely thrilled about this opportunity,” said Dr. Melinda Arnold, TAMUT vice president.
