Texas A&M senior pitcher Evan Aschenbeck and junior shortstop Ali Camarillo were both taken on the third and final day of the MLB draft on Tuesday.
Camarillo was selected 346th overall in the 12th round by the Oakland Athletics. In his lone season at A&M, Camarillo started in all 68 games and hit .288 with seven home runs and 36 runs batted in. He transferred from Cal State-Northridge.
Aschenbeck was selected 392nd in the 13th round by the Chicago Cubs. The left-hander earned the 2024 stopper of the year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and won the team’s C.E. “Pat” Olsen Outstanding Pitcher Award. The Brenham native led the Aggies with a 1.78 earned run average and 0.89 WHIP in 32 appearances, all out of the bullpen. He also led the Aggies with 10 saves.
A&M had seven players picked in this year’s draft.
