Texas DPS captures human smuggler in Rio Grande Valley

  • The smuggler was hiding in brush with two other people
  • The two migrants were taken for processing by border authorities
  • The smuggler was taken to jail on felony charges

(NewsNation) — NewsNation was embedded with a Texas Department of Public Safety team when it apprehended a smuggling guide from Mexico in the Rio Grande Valley.

The DPS brush team was on patrol tracking groups for several hours as they hid. Officers used drones, ATVs and K-9 units to eventually locate the smuggler, along with two people who crossed the border illegally, in the brush.

After having tried to evade law enforcement in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the two people discovered needed medical attention, complaining of a heart condition.

The two who had crossed illegally were transported for processing and could ultimately face removal.

The guide was arrested by DPS for felony human smuggling and taken to jail.
