AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas moved up two spots to No. 5 in the latest Associated Press women’s top 25 rankings released Monday.
The Longhorns were able to take a little break with just one game last week, a 65-43 road win over TCU, but with plenty of shuffling within the top 10, voters moved Texas up two spots. The team is currently on a 4-game winning streak and will face Houston on the road Wednesday before welcoming Iowa State to Moody Center on Saturday.

While the offense struggled early against the Horned Frogs, Texas’ defense was outstanding in the week’s win. The Longhorns held TCU to more than 20 points below their season average, and once the offense got rolling, it was all over. Texas missed just two shots in the third quarter, shooting 10 of 12, to outscore TCU 26-12 in the frame.
“This was a really good win for us,” Longhorns head coach Vic Schaefer said. “TCU was way different but they still did some things that gave us problems. Give our kids a lot of credit.”
South Carolina, the only undefeated team left in Division I, remained at the top of the poll but nearly every other team in the top 10 made moves. Ohio State and Stanford both jump three spots to Nos. 2 and 3, followed by Iowa dropping two to No. 4. North Carolina State fell three to check in below Texas at No. 6 while Kansas State moved up one to No. 7. Colorado tumbled four places to No. 8 while UCLA and Southern California held at Nos. 9 and 10.
Baylor (No. 21), Oklahoma (No. 23) and West Virginia (No. 24) round out the Big 12 teams in the poll.
