AUSTIN (KXAN) — Crowds are expected to gather around the Texas State Capitol in Austin on Saturday for the annual Rally for Life.
The rally is held for those who oppose pregnancy terminations and seek to educate about alternatives, according to organizers. It will begin with a march to the capitol at 1 p.m., followed by the rally and remarks from speakers.
Texas Senator John Cornyn will be a featured speaker at the event.
“We’re there to rally the faithful and people who want to be heard on this issue which is so important, it’s a matter of conscience and a moral issue as opposed to a political issue,” Cornyn said.
An hourlong pro-life expo event will also be held at the capitol at 3 p.m.
Texas’ abortion regulations have been the center of lawsuits highlighting women who said they were denied medically necessary abortions as a result of the legislation.
This week, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said lawmakers should clarify the state’s current law to protect expectant mothers whose lives are at risk during pregnancy.
