Smith’s Silver Slugger win adds to his 2024 accolades, including the Rangers’ Richard Durrett Hardest Working Player Award.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith has been named the 2024 recipient of the American League Silver Slugger Award at the utility position, the Texas Rangers announced Tuesday night.
The award, presented annually by Louisville Slugger, recognizes the top offensive players at each position in the American and National Leagues with votes cast by MLB managers and coaches.
This is Smith’s first career Silver Slugger and the first time a Texas Ranger has won the award at the utility position, a category introduced in 2022. His win also marks the third consecutive year in which a Rangers player has received a Silver Slugger, following awards won by Nathaniel Lowe (first base) in 2022 and both Corey Seager (shortstop) and Marcus Semien (second base) in 2023.
Smith, who turned 27 in August, achieved career-highs in 2024 across multiple offensive categories, including a .258 batting average, 13 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 30 doubles. He finished fifth in the AL in times hit by pitch (18) and ranked among the league’s top players in doubles and on-base percentage.
Over a career-high 149 games, Smith started in five positions, making the most appearances at third base and shortstop. While filling in for Josh Jung, Smith started 69 games at third base.
Smith’s Silver Slugger win adds to his 2024 accolades, including the Rangers’ Richard Durrett Hardest Working Player Award.
