TEXAS – In a recent analysis by WalletHub, Texas was found as the fifth most “sinful” state in the country.
The “WalletHub Vice Index” – what the study called their measuring system – consisted of multiple traits and components of human nature like anger and hatred, jealousy, greed and lust.
Theft per capita, excessive drinking and gambling disorders were also some of the qualities measured.
“While individual cases of negative behavior may only affect a few people, when these behaviors are exhibited by a high share of a state’s population, the majority of the state’s residents suffer as a result,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst.
Followed by number four, Louisiana, Texas ranked 36 on the anger and hatred rank, six on the jealousy rank and 1 on the lust rank.
Nevada is the top most “sinful” state, mirroing the nickname of Las Vegas, “Sin City.”
“Gambling is not the only vice that plagues Nevada and its residents, though. The state also has the most prostitution arrests in the U.S. and the second-highest number of fast food restaurants, showing that lust and gluttony both have a hold,” said WalletHub’s website.
While there are many things that can measure how “sinful” a state or city is, experts involved in the study believe that there are some measures that can be taken to decrease the negative impacts on states.
“Comprehensive measures such as ensuring access to healthy foods, funding public health education, and incentivizing physical activity through well-designed, strategically placed community spaces are crucial,” said sociology professor at Florida State University, Deana Rohlinger, according to the WalletHub website.
