AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas remains one of the most popular states in the country to move to, but data from a moving company shows others have a higher percentage of “inbound migration.”
In the 30th-annual edition of its Migration Patterns Study, Atlas Van Lines shows Texas is one of the top 10 states with most inbound migration, meaning people moving into the state.
Fifty-six percent of all migration in Texas last year was from people moving to the state, while 44% were people moving out of the state.
Hawaii was the most sought-after destination in 2023, with 77% of shipments with Atlas Van Lines being inbound. Maine and North Carolina also had high percentages of inbound traffic, each at 64%.
Illinois and Pennsylvania were the states with the most outbound traffic, with 63% of migration in each of those states being people moving away. Louisiana and Minnesota also had outbound migration totals above 60%.
Atlas’ data also shows which foreign countries saw the most migration to and from the U.S. using its services.
