Texas sales tax holiday starts April 27 for emergency supplies

  

AUSTIN (KXAN) — With severe weather season approaching, Texans can prepare for emergencies and save some dollars during the sales tax holiday beginning April 27.

The Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday runs from April 27-29 with no purchase limit on the number of qualifying items, according to the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

Eligible purchases include:

  • Household batteries, first aid kits, coolers for food storage, fuel containers, flashlights and many more items under $75
  • Hurricane shutters and emergency ladders under $300
  • Portable generators under $3,000

The sales tax holiday applies to in-store, online, telephone and mail orders, according to the comptroller’s office. Delivery, shipping, handling and transportation charges are included in the sales price.

The sales tax holiday is estimated to save Texans $2.1 million in state and local taxes, according to the comptroller’s office.
