AUSTIN (KXAN) — Westlake’s Rees Wise hit Lawson Grimes for a 43-yard touchdown pass with 0:21 left in the first half to give the No. 4 Chaparrals a 21-17 halftime lead over No. 9 Humble Atascocita on Friday at Chaparral Stadium.
The Chaps had to dig into their bag of tricks to score their second touchdown. Wise threw a backward pass to Cal Livengood, and then Livengood tossed a wobbling ball to Justice Johnson for a 20-yard score in the second quarter.
The Chaps got on the board first with a Wise 4-yard run in the first quarter.
Atascocita scored touchdowns on two big plays, a 78-yard wide receiver screen to CJ Toney and a 26-yard pass from Cardae Mack to Broderick Malone. The touchdown pass to Malone was on a fourth-and-6 play for the Eagles. Atascocita took the lead on a 26-yard field goal late in the second quarter before Grimes’ big play.
