Texas volleyball keeps rolling in SEC play, claims sweep over Kentucky

  

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The No. 7 Texas Longhorns volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven matches with a 3-0 victory over No. 12 Kentucky on Sunday at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-19, 25-17. It’s the fourth consecutive sweep for the Longhorns and only Texas A&M has taken a set off them in Southeastern Conference play.

Two Longhorns who previously played for the Wildcats had big matches against their old squad. Reagan Rutherford led the Longhorns with 10 kills and a .438 hitting percentage while Madisen Skinner notched eight kills. It was the first time that both players played at Memorial Coliseum since transferring to Texas.

Devin Kahahawai had nine kills with six block assists and Ayden Ames chipped in six kills with four block assists.

Texas hit .281 as a team with 40 kills and 15 errors on 89 attempts and doubled up the Wildcats in total blocks 14-7. Kentucky hit .089 with 32 kills and 23 errors on 101 attempts.

Ella Swindle had 17 set assists and Emma Halter had eight digs for the Longhorns.

Texas (10-3, 5-0 SEC) hosts Arkansas in SEC action Friday.
