The jury also heard that Isaacs previously went to prison in 2017 for injuring her elderly mother. Jurors deliberated for about half of an hour.
QUITMAN, Texas — A Quitman woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison for beating an East Texas homeowner with a metal pole.
Ruby Dee Isaacs pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was sentenced to 30 years on March 18 by a jury.
In April 2023, the Wood County District Attorney’s Office said that Isaacs and three other people came to the homeowner’s property without permission and with weapons in their hands. Isaacs had a homemade “metal pole” with a sprocket attached to the end.
After a verbal argument, Isaacs repeatedly struck the woman in the face and her body with the pole. The homeowner had to get stitches placed in her chin and staples in her forehead, the DA’s office said.
Wood County Criminal District Attorney Angela Albers described Isaacs as a violent woman who showed up with violent intentions.
“The people of Wood County are safer now that the defendant will be behind bars for 30 years. I am pleased with the jury’s verdict and the jury’s verdict sends a message to all violent criminals in Wood County that they will be held accountable for their violent actions and suffer severe consequences,” Albers said.
The jury also heard that Isaacs previously went to prison in 2017 for injuring her elderly mother. Jurors deliberated for about half of an hour.
She must serve 15 years in prison before she is eligible for parole.
