The ‘best’ and ‘worst’ Texas cities for Easter celebrations, data shows

(NEXSTAR) — This weekend, millions of Americans will observe the Christian holiday of Easter — and though eggs might be more expensive this year, the celebrations will go on, regardless. But depending where in Texas you’re located, your Easter celebration could either be a spring fling or a bunny hop flop.

Recently, WalletHub analyzed the 100 largest U.S. cities across 11 different metrics to determine how ideal they were for Easter festivities. Cities were ranked on a 100-point scale on data like share of Christian population, shares of children ages 9 and younger, and typical Easter weather.

One Texas city cracked WalletHub’s top 10 Best Places to Celebrate Easter while three others placed in the bottom. Here’s how Texas cities fared in the rankings:

Overall rank City “Easter score” Easter observers rank Kids’ easter rank
7. El Paso 54.84 7th 12th
23. Houston 47.99 78th 30th
27. Corpus Christi 47.56 9th 31st
35. Laredo 45.80 13th 5th
40. Austin 44.79 77th 79th

All told, El Paso is the best city to celebrate Easter in Texas, per WalletHub’s data. The east Texas city earned an overall “Easter score” of 54.86 (for context, Birmingham, Alabama was ranked no. 1 with a score of only 60.93), and ranked seventh nationally for number of Easter observers and 12th nationally when it comes to kids’ Easter celebrations.

El Paso also ranked 37th nationally for Easter traditions, a 30-point grade that factored in Google search interest for “Easter” terms, brunch restaurants per capita, cost of restaurant meals and candy/flower shops per capita.

Meanwhile, Garland — located between Dallas and Plano — ranked last statewide and 98th nationally for its Easter celebration potential.

Garland’s biggest dings come from its 99th national placement for Easter traditions and an 86th national ranking for Easter weather. All-in-all, Garland received a total “Easter score” of 33.94. Hialeah, Florida, which ranked last nationally, had a score that was only 1.99 points lower.
