We listed eight iconic North Texas Tex-Mex restaurants. You weren’t shy about adding your own.
DALLAS — We knew what we were doing. One can’t merely float a list of the “8 iconic Tex-Mex restaurants in North Texas” and not expect a decent amount a feedback. And to that, I say thank you.
We published such list on Monday, and by the end of the day, my inbox was full of North Texas Tex-Mex recommendations, politely pointing out why their favorite should have made the cut. The good news is that there wasn’t a cut. Our list wasn’t a ranking, or even a declaration. We just figured it might be worth compiling a list of some of North Texas’ most iconic spots, even though everyone knows eight is not nearly enough.
Even better news? Our readers came through with enough Tex-Mex insight to keep you full the rest of the year.
To reset, here were the eight we included in our article:
- Joe T. Garcia’s (Fort Worth)
- Pulido’s Kitchen and Cantina (Fort Worth)
- The Original Mexican Eats Cafe (Fort Worth)
- Los Vaqueros (Fort Worth)
- Mi Cocina (Dallas)
- Manny’s Tex-Mex (Dallas)
- Mariano’s Hacienda (Dallas)
- El Fenix (Dallas)
I’ll only take slight issue with one complaint we received, that our list was too Fort Worth-heavy. But that’s an even split, by my count, and Fort Worth’s Tex-Mex scene punches above its weight. Another emailer accused the author of being a 12-year-old, but that’s just funny.
Anyway, for your enjoyment — and consumption — here’s the assortment of Tex-Mex restaurants you vouched for:
- Pepe’s and Mito’s, 2911 Elm St., Dallas (Note: Over a dozen emails mentioning Pepe’s and Mito’s, which tells me a grassroots campaign was successful.)
