Back in 2015, I came across one of the saddest articles I’d ever seen. It was featured on “The Cut” and was written by Michael Sonmore. The article was titled “What Open Marriage Taught One Man About Feminism,” and inside was a desperate justification for his wife openly sleeping with other men by painting it as garnering a deeper understanding and respect of feminism.
The opening paragraph is so cringe-worthy that if I didn’t know any better, I would have considered it a parody:
As I write this, my children are asleep in their room, Loretta Lynn is on the stereo, and my wife is out on a date with a man named Paulo. It’s her second date this week; her fourth this month so far. If it goes like the others, she’ll come home in the middle of the night, crawl into bed beside me, and tell me all about how she and Paulo had sex. I won’t explode with anger or seethe with resentment. I’ll tell her it’s a hot story and I’m glad she had fun. It’s hot because she’s excited, and I’m glad because I’m a feminist.
It gets worse. Sonmore hinted that, by nature, he’s angry about what’s happening but he uses his feminism as a mental shield, justifying his wife being penetrated by other men in the dead of night by making a big deal about her sexual agency and his toxic masculine need for patriarchal ownership:
Monogamy meant I controlled her sexual expression, and, not to get all women’s-studies major about it, patriarchal oppression essentially boils down to a man’s fear that a woman with sexual agency is a woman he can’t control.
It’s a depressing read that’s really easy to see through, but eight years later, Sonmore’s weak and sad mentality is being pushed as healthy and good.
If you’re on Twitter, you’ve probably seen “Adam22” trending on the site, and for good reason. “Adam22” is a YouTube personality whose real name is Adam Grandmaison. He isn’t trending for any reason that could be considered good. Grandmaison is an open cuckold who spends a lot of time attempting to convince the world that letting your wife have sex with others is a good thing. His wife is porn star Lena Nersesian (aka Lena The Plug) and recently he allowed another porn star to sleep with his wife on camera and for everyone else to see.
I’m not going to go into further detail but suffice it to say that Adam22 makes this lifestyle try to seem very glamorous. He buys his wife fancy new cars for cheating and she makes him seem like he’s a real man despite allowing others to have sex with her. He even offers her up like a contest.
That’s not even the most disturbing part. These two have a daughter together, and some of the things said and done around this child have been nothing short of grotesque and disturbing while still being legal somehow.
The response from the internet has been negative, and while that’s a good thing, I’m not sure it means we can relax. The bottom line is that this is becoming more of a trend from a number of creators and even high-profile people. The most high-profile person to be “okay” with his wife sleeping around on him is Will Smith, the once beloved Hollywood A-lister brought low by his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who not only justifies her lifestyle on her podcast but gets her husband to reluctantly justify this as “love.”
Don’t think this just swings one way. Women are left to justify their husbands openly running around on them to the world as well. Take this TikToker for instance who, despite trying to look cool, confident, and even authoritative, reeks of insecurity and anxiety while she tries to convince other women that a husband going on dates with other women only makes them stronger.
I talk about normalization a lot in my writing. It’s one of the more effective tactics that can make a fringe thing into a mainstream thing. For instance, the normalization of transgenderism brought gender fluidity from the bowels of Tumblr into a popular way to be unique like everyone else.
Normalization is usually a long, slow process of ebbing away at people’s misgivings, insecurities, or moral stances about a certain thing. Right now, polyamory is viewed as a negative thing that only weirdos and the weak-willed get up to. However, over the course of time, with influencers attempting to justify the lifestyle and show it off as glamorous, fun, and healthy, people getting into marriages only to kick monogamy out the door moments after “I do” is uttered will become more frequent.
We live in an age where selfishness is being promoted as a commonality. It’s incredibly likely that open marriages will become more and more common as polyamory is pushed into the public square, and what will follow will be the destruction of marriage as we know it. What will follow closely behind that is the destruction of the nuclear family, the cornerstone of America’s strength.
These things were already in danger. Even the stay-at-home housewife that was so common since the dawn of man is now being considered a novelty on TikTok known as “Trad Wives.” However, if polyamory becomes a common practice then you can expect the fall of America to not be far behind. Without the healthy nuclear family, America has no future. It will devolve into a selfish shadow of what it once was with every person simply out for themselves, even to the point of disrespecting and desecrating their own marriage with a guiltless smile on their face.
