As Donald Trump recovers from Saturday’s shocking assassination attempt at his Butler, PA campaign rally, the Republican National Committee and the former president issued an evening statement indicating that Trump was going to be OK and the GOP convention will proceed as planned. It is scheduled to commence Monday.

Such an outcome would have been unthinkable only hours ago, as we saw a blood-soaked Trump maneuvered into an SUV and whisked to safety.
Despite the almost surreal turn of events, the current frontrunner in the presidential election said he “looked forward to joining you all in Milwaukee”:
As was communicated earlier this evening, President Trump is doing well and grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their fast action. President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States. As our party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again.
Notice one thing about this statement: before getting down to the business of the convention, Trump first thanked law enforcement and first responders for their incredible response as the shots rang out. There will be much discussion in the coming days about how this shooter was able to perch on a rooftop unmolested and unnoticed, but for today, let’s just honor the lightning-fast reaction security forces had at the moment.
Sadly, we’ve seen moments like this in our nation’s history, and it’s only by the grace of God and perhaps an inch or two that we are not today a country mourning a slain leader. As bad as this moment is, it could have been ever so much worse and would have resounded for decades, just like the Kennedy brothers’ assassinations still reverberate in this country to this day.

It’s been a hectic news cycle on this Saturday, July 13:

President Biden issued a weak statement on the political violence, while unhinged voices in the press and social media called it everything from a staged act to a missed opportunity. Disgusting. But barring any more bombshells, it appears as if the GOP convention will go ahead as planned—although I’m betting with increased security—and Donald Trump will receive the Republican nomination and be well on the way to retaking the presidency. We can only hope this is the last we see of this type of abhorrent violence, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the world we live in right now.
