With the countdown on to the start of the 89th Texas legislative session, a new group has launched with the goal of keeping lawmakers accountable.
The PAC is call the ‘Texas Republican Leadership Fund’, and it was founded and funded by Amarillo businessman Alex Fairly, the CEO of Fairly Group.
“What we would like to see happen is really simple” Fairly said, “We would like Republicans to get together and elect a speaker with a majority of Republicans.”
Simply put, but not simple to do. It was basically the Dustin Burrows speaker debacle that was the last straw, with Fairly literally putting his money where his mouth is, to the tune of $20 million dollars.
“So that our speaker is unencumbered from commitments that they may have had to make to the other party to become the speaker” Fairly told KTRH, “It’s really that simple.”
Or simply put another way, the conservative majority should have conservative leaders. And a conservative agenda.
“Even though we have a majority in the House, we send forth a speaker who is beholden to the Democrats, and this just seems kind of crazy that we do it this way” noted Fairly.
The goal is to hold Republican legislators accountable, and to have true Republican conservatives elected in 2026.
