TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

The Look on Jake Tapper’s Face When Boris Johnson Torpedoes Latest ‘Russia’ Nonsense Is Glorious

That may be one of the few times a CNN audience has been treated to the truth on the issue.

Trump’s Funny, No-Holds-Barred Interview Has Them Rolling When He Explains Joe Biden’s Real Talent

Trump does particularly well in these kinds of interviews, where his humor and humanity come out more. The difference between his ability and knowledge versus Kamala Harris is stark.

Oops: Jim Cantore Inadvertently Sinks Kamala’s ‘Selfish’ Ron DeSantis Narrative in Five Seconds Flat

As we’ve said here many times before, true leaders lead while pretenders flounder and flail. I think we know which one is which between DeSantis and Harris in this scenario.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

While the critters remain out and about in the run-up to November 5, several contenders for the 119th Congress are rounding out their races with debates. Wednesday night saw a debate between Arizona Senate contenders Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Kari Lake (R), who are vying for the seat presently held by the retiring Kyrsten Sinema (I).

Meanwhile, vulnerable House Democrats, like Rep. Jared Golden (ME) and Mary Peltola (AK), are doing their best to distance themselves from the Biden-Harris administration, which is telling in itself.

White House What’s Up

The only thing on President Joe Biden’s schedule for Thursday is an updated briefing regarding Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to attend the briefing virtually…

The Homestretch

…That is because Harris is presently in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she’ll tape a Univision town hall in the early afternoon before heading to Phoenix, Arizona, to deliver remarks at a campaign event Thursday evening. Fresh off his coffee thievery, Second (not a) Gentleman Doug Emhoff is campaigning in Georgia on Thursday, with stops in Newnan, Atlanta, and Athens. And power surrogate former President Barack Obama will campaign for Harris in Pennsylvania Thursday evening.

Former President Donald Trump will deliver remarks at the Detroit Economic Club in the afternoon. His running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, will host a town hall in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday evening, with Danica Patrick serving as the special guest moderator.

Full Court Press…

Sean “Diddy” Combs will appear in court in the Southern District of New York on Thursday afternoon for a pre-trial hearing, where he is expected to again request bail. His lawyers have also requested that hotel surveillance footage of Combs beating then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura be excluded from evidence, asserting that the government improperly leaked the footage.

MORNING MUSING

The other day, I mused that we’re seeing the Peter Principle (that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to the level of their incompetence) writ large.

I believe what prompted it was my observation of the seemingly feckless response of the federal government to Hurricane Helene — but it could have been about foreign policy. Or…maybe immigration. Or inflation. Who knows? What I do know is that I look around at the regular blundering of those “in charge” and have to seriously ponder whether we peaked around 1999 and are now on the downhill side of things. We’ve got presidential administrations floundering, campaigns flailing, federal agencies making the Keystone Cops look marginally functional, major news networks self-destructing. So. Much. Incompetence.

LIGHTER FARE

Just want to include a quick shoutout to the linemen who’ve been busting their butts the past couple of weeks to restore power in the areas ravaged by Hurricanes Helene and now Milton.
