To Protect His Wife, Canada Man Takes on Apex Predator and Lives to Tell the Tale

What wouldn’t a real man do to protect his family?

In a remote part of Canada on the shores of Hudson Bay, in a village called Ft. Severn, a local couple was outdoors looking for their dogs when a polar bear lunged at the woman. The man (the couple is not named) leapt onto the bear, fearlessly attacking an enormous apex predator to protect his wife.

This Canadian man has won his Man Card for life.

A man is recovering from serious injuries after leaping onto a polar bear to protect his wife from being mauled by the animal, according to police in Canada’s Ontario province.

A man and a woman in the town of Fort Severn had left their home before 5 a.m. local time to look for their dogs and, while in the driveway, “a polar bear lunged at the woman,” Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) said in a news release Tuesday.

“The woman slipped to (the) ground as her husband leapt onto the animal to prevent its attack. The bear then attacked the male, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and legs,” the service added.

The man “is expected to recover,” police said.

It’s good that he is recovering; hopefully, there is extra room in his hospital bed for the gigantic brass pair he has swingin’.

The bear didn’t come out of the fray as well.

While the man grappled with the animal, “a neighbour arrived with a firearm and shot the bear several times. The bear retreated to a nearby wooded area where it died from its injuries,” NAPS said.

Police officers, who arrived at the scene after receiving reports of gunfire and a possible bear sighting in the area, “located a deceased polar bear,” the service said, adding: “Police continued to patrol the area to ensure no other bears were roaming the community.”

Bear in mind (hah) that this unnamed Canadian man was grappling with a polar bear. The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is an awesome beast. They are the only bears that are exclusively predatory, and anything that isn’t a threat to them is viewed as food, and there’s not much of anything they see as a threat except another polar bear. An adult male (boar) can weigh almost 1,800 pounds, with females (sows) running about a third less. They can run up to eight feet in length, making them the largest living bear.

And they will eat you if they get the chance. That’s the beast this brave Canadian man leaped on. To protect his wife. Respect.

What wouldn’t a man do to protect his wife? His family? If he’s a man worthy of the title “man,” almost anything. This Canadian man is a great example – he leaped on the world’s largest apex predator without a thought to protect his wife from the ravening beast.

Mad respect. This is a guy I would buy a beer for any time, any time at all.
