Tracking showers and storms in San Antonio area

FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

  • SEVERE POSSIBLE: Heavy rainfall, plus gusty winds and hail are possible through Friday morning
  • RAIN THURSDAY: Periodic showers and storms, most widespread in the afternoon and evening
  • RAIN ENDS FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Any rain should come to an end Friday afternoon
  • WEEKEND: Sunshine, humidity, afternoons in the 80s.

FORECAST

FIRST ROUND THIS AFTERNOON

The rain will come in rounds with breaks in between, and the first round already dropped up to 2″ in some neighborhoods on the westside of San Antonio. Some storms could be strong at times, with gusty winds and perhaps even localized hail. However, the biggest issue will likely be heavy rainfall leading to street flooding in the typically flood prone areas, and low water crossings will need to be watched. Also, clogged drains could lead to street flooding in other areas.

WILL IT BE RAINING THE ENTIRE TIME?

A little break in the action is expected overnight, but plan for scattered showers for the morning commute, then the intensity and coverage of rain is likely to increase significantly Thursday afternoon and evening. Plan for periods of rain, heavy at times, all the way through the Friday morning commute, but the rain should come to an end by Friday afternoon.
