Here’s where roads are closed due to flooding and crashes across North Texas.
DALLAS — Heavy rain fell across North Texas starting Wednesday night into Thursday morning, causing roads to flood around the Metroplex.
A flood watch is in effect through Thursday morning , with four to seven inches of rainfall possible. There is also a marginal risk for severe storms Thursday morning.
The rainfall was ponding on roads and caused several areas to flood during the morning commute Thursday.
A crash on Interstate 45 caused major backups heading into downtown Dallas Thursday morning. The southbound lanes of I-45 were closed at Good Latimer Expressway around 4:30 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation. As of 6 a.m., just one lane of traffic remained open, according to TxDOT.
Elsewhere in Dallas, officials responded to an overturned 18-wheeler in the southbound lanes of I-45 at Santa Fe Trail, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said in a social media post. The truck was blocking the two left lanes of traffic, officials said.
Eastbound Interstate 30 service road at I-45 southbound and the U.S. 75 North split was closed Thursday morning due to flooding, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. TxDOT worked to unclog the drains to reduce the flooding, officials said.
In Fort Worth, a fatal crash closed portions of Southwest Loop 820 Freeway, officials said.
Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash around 1:35 a.m. Jan. 30 at Southwest Loop 820 Freeway and Bryant Irvin Road, Fort Worth Police said in a press release.
The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Officers are investigating the incident, police said.
