Train derails in downtown Waxahachie, officials say

 

A train derailed in downtown Waxahachie overnight Tuesday, closing several roads, officials said.

WAXAHACHIE, Texas — A train derailed in downtown Waxahachie Tuesday, closing several roads, officials said. 

The train derailed overnight, affecting an area of downtown Waxahachie spanning from Peters to Gibson streets, the city said in a Facebook post. 

Union Pacific is working to clear the train, city officials said. Police, Fire-Rescue and other city crews are on scene to secure the surronding area, the post states. The city anticipates this work will take several hours to complete, according to the post. 

There are currently no reported injuries connected to the derailment, officials said. Several roads are closed due to the incident, the post states. 

Officials ask motorists to drive with caution and avoid the area if possible.
