Texas Air National Guard personnel responded to Gov. Abbott’s call to deploy the Texas Tactical Border Force to the Rio Grande Valley.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Personnel based at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth deployed to the border as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s command to deploy state troops to the Rio Grande Valley, the Navy said in a press release.
Troops based in Fort Worth were some of the 400 mobilized Jan. 27 using Ch-47 Chinook helicopters and C-130J aircraft of the 136th Airlift Wing, a unit of the Texas Air National Guard stationed in Fort Worth, the release states.
The deployment of the Texas Tactical Border Force is an important component of Gov. Abbott’s border security initiative, Operation Lone Star, the governor said in a press release. As part of the mission, Abbott has funded the bussing of over 23,000 migrants to Chicago and set aside $3 billion in funding to build a wall on the southern border which has so far made little progress, an investigation by the Texas Tribune found.
The NAS JRB Fort Worth transported 200 Texas National Guard personnel using four Chinooks and two C-130Js to the southern border, Lt. Cmdr. William Husky, deputy operations officer, said in the release.
“The deployment reinforces ongoing efforts to address the border situation and collaborate with federal authorities to safeguard American communities,” the release states.
