Looking for the ideal trout fishing spot this winter? This list breaks down the most stocked waterways in North Texas.
DALLAS — Trout fishing season is here in Texas, and the state is keeping its local waterways stocked through winter. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, trout are among the simplest to catch.
Rainbow trout cannot survive in Texas waters after winter, so each year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) stocks hundreds of thousands of fish into rivers, lakes and ponds.
From Nov. 26 to March 9, TPWD will stock 342,373 rainbow trout across Texas.
Before you plan your fishing trip, make sure you have a license. Kids 17 and younger do not need a license, but adults 18 and older are required to have a TPWD-issued fishing license with a freshwater endorsement.
It’s also important to know the state fishing limit. In Texas, there’s a bag limit of five trout per day with no minimum length limit.
