Waxahachie’s annual Tulip Festival was canceled until further notice Saturday after the flowers were damaged in a hail storm.
WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Tulipalooza in Waxahachie was canceled until further notice Saturday after the flowers were damaged by early morning storms.
The sixth annual tulip festival provides an opportunity for tulip picking while supporting local charities, according to the festival’s website. The festival was scheduled to run from Feb. 28 through March 16.
After hail and storms moved through the area Saturday, the festival announced it would be closed until further notice.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by last night’s devastating storms in Waxahachie. we hope you and your loved ones are safe,” Tulipalooza said in a statement. ” Unfortunately, the tulips did not fare well in the storm, and due to the damage, we will be closed until further notice.”
Organizers will assess the fields to try and preserve the blooms, the statement reads. The festival said it will keep the community updated as they learn more.
