It’s only been a few days since billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken over Twitter, but his shakeups are already causing some changes for users.
On Sunday, The Verge reported that Twitter will introduce paid verification.
That will affect celebrities, journalists, organizations, influencers and other pages that have the blue checkmark next to their names.
Users with the blue checkmarks will now have to pay $19.99 a month to keep it under the new Twitter Blue subscription, according to The Verge.
The Verge reported that it’s an expansion of the original Twitter Blue plan, which is an optional subscription “that gives the most engaged people on Twitter exclusive access to premium features.”
That plan, which is currently $4.99 a month, allows users to edit Tweets, receive ad-free articles and set customizations.
Verified users have 90 days to sign up for the new $19.99-per-month plan or lose their checkmarks, The Verge reported.
The new Twitter Blue is slated to launch next month, and employees need to meet the deadline of Nov. 7, or they could be fired, The Verge reported.
As The Verge reported on the changes on Sunday evening, Musk Tweeted that “the whole verification process is being revamped right now.”
Musk completed his $44 billion takeover of the platform on Thursday, and one of his first moves included ousting its top executives.
He has pledged to clean up spam accounts and limit moderation, as a self-described “free speech absolutist.”
