Two North Texas roads become hazardous due to sprinklers being left on, officials say

A truck crashed into a pole where the road was iced over, officials said.

DALLAS — Roads that were iced over by water from sprinklers caused a crash off LBJ Freeway, and created hazardous conditions Thursday morning, officials said.

Freezing temperatures caused the roads to ice over, officials said in a social media post.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office traffic deputies responded to an accident around 8:30 a.m. Jan 23 at 34511 Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, officials said in a social media post. The westbound service road near Bonnie View Road was closed while deputies worked to clear the accident and treat the road.

A nearby business left its sprinklers on overnight, causing the road to ice over, officials said.

A similar incident occurred in The Colony, where sprinklers caused a Windhaven Parkway at Boat House Boulevard to ice over, according to The Colony police department.

Officials urged motorists to use caution in the area as the city’s public works department works to treat the roads.
