MCKINNEY, Texas — Two people died after suffering gunshot wounds in a shooting Saturday night in McKinney, police said.
According to the McKinney Police Department, officers responded to the shooting around 5:50 p.m. near the intersection of Chestnut Street and Colorado Street.
Police said two people, a 17-year-old and a 22-year-old, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were taken to a local hospital. Both died from their injuries, according to police.
Police on the scene confirmed to WFAA that the shooting occurred in the street and not inside any nearby businesses.
The McKinney Police Department said it is actively searching for a suspect. However, no description was provided.
“Incidents like this are very rare in McKinney,” Officer Darryl Saffold told WFAA at the scene. “This is still a very safe community and we take pride in that at the McKinney Police Department. We just want everyone to know that we will investigate this — turn over every single stone and figure out what happened.”
