TxDOT pre-treating North Texas roads ahead of forecasted wintry weather

With the pre-treatment of the roads out of the way, crews are ready to respond if the roads get dangerous.

DALLAS — Before arctic air sends temperatures plunging, TxDOT crews are already preparing bridges and roadways for a possible freeze.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has pre-treated roads in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to prepare for possible freezing temperatures beginning late Tuesday night. Workers have deployed a brine application, focusing on bridges because they are most vulnerable to icing over.

Secondary roads, such as less-traveled state highways, HOV lanes and FM roads, won’t see a lot of attention from TxDOT.

With the pre-treatment of the roads out of the way, crews are ready to respond if the roads get dangerous. TxDOT said the preparation is a way to control what they can. They also recognize what they can’t control: the drivers.

TxDOT advises drivers to allow space between their vehicles and others. They also said if you slide, steer in the direction of the skid with your foot off the gas and brake.
