Update [9:59 p.m. EST, 5/6/23]: The Associated Press reports that the shooting in Allen, Texas, left nine victims in its wake, with one hospital system saying eight patients had been transported to its hospitals.
Witnesses who were at the Allen Premium Outlets told The Associated Press they saw multiple victims, including some who appeared to be children, and that they saw a police officer and a mall security guard who appeared to be unconscious on the ground.
Allen police said in a Facebook post that nine victims had been taken to hospitals. Medical City Healthcare, a Dallas-area hospital system, said in a written statement it was treating eight between the ages of 5 and 61. Their conditions were unknown.
The report includes more details on the shooting and its perpetrator, who was “neutralized” by a responding officer:
Dashcam video that circulated online showed a gunman step out of a vehicle outside the mall and immediately start shooting at people on the sidewalk. More than three dozen shots could be heard as the vehicle recording the video drove off.
An Allen Police officer was in the area on an unrelated call when he heard shots at 3:36 p.m., the police department wrote on Facebook.
“The officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat. He then called for emergency personnel. Nine victims were transported to local hospitals by Allen Fire Department,” the agency wrote in the Facebook post. “There is no longer an active threat.”
Original Story
An “active shooting situation” has been reported at the Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas, near Dallas.
There are reportedly multiple victims on the scene, according to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. WFAA has claimed that the victims include children, although that has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office also reported that the shooter has been killed.
Operations Administrator Joshua W. Barnwell told FOX 4 Dallas that he heard at least 30 gunshots and saw around 60 rounds of ammunition on the ground.
A mother who was at the mall with her daughter said she heard popping noises and saw sparks flying.
“We were outside the Converse store and we just heard all this popping,” Elaine Penicaro explained to FOX 4. “We kind of all just stopped, and then a second later, just ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,’ and there were sparks flying like it was right in front of us.”
There’s a reported video of bodies on the ground circulating, but that also has not been confirmed by the police.
The Allen Police are telling people to avoid the area.
