USATF responds to injuries outside Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M

   

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – USA Track & Field (USATF) released a statement Thursday after several people, including a Texas A&M University employee, were injured in a crowded event the day prior.

At the National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M on Wednesday, USATF said a crowd had exceeded capacity, so university employees and USATF officials made the call to restrict any more people from entering.

USATF confirmed this crowd had become agitated, resulting in the injuries of a Texas A&M University employee, a USATF official, and others.

USATF’s full statement reads as follows:

“With all our events, USA Track & Field (USATF) adheres to the security protocols put in place by every host venue, and we expect parents, coaches, athletes, and fans to be respectful of the rules made by the facility. On Wednesday, July 24th, Texas A&M University determined that the crowd had exceeded capacity and consequently restricted entry to the facility. The actions of a small group of people resulted in an injury to a Texas A&M University employee, a USATF official, and others. We strongly condemn this behavior and will take disciplinary action against those involved.”
