SAN ANTONIO – Happy Valentine’s Day! While some of us are busy planning romantic dinners, others are perfecting the art of ghosting.
According to a fresh survey by NumberBarn, San Antonio is one of the top cities in the U.S. for ghosting. More than half of Alamo City residents, 56.3%, have admitted to pulling a vanishing act on someone.
Ghosting isn’t just limited to the dating world anymore. It’s sneaking into friendships and even the workplace.
On average, folks in San Antonio ghost about 3.2 people a year and have been ghosted around 1.9 times in the past year. This places the city as the ninth-worst in the country for ghosting. And we’re not alone — Austin and Houston are also in the top 10.
When it comes to dating, a staggering 75% of singles in San Antonio report being ghosted while using dating apps. The workplace isn’t immune either, with 61% of job seekers ghosted by potential employers and 35% admitting to ghosting employers themselves.
What are the main reasons for ghosting? Avoiding conflict, spotting red flags and dodging toxic vibes.
And here’s a kicker — nearly 1 in 5 people have been ghosted right before or on Valentine’s Day. Only a quarter of those who’ve been ghosted reconcile with the person who disappeared. Plus, 27% of folks say they wait about a month before officially calling it ghosting.
