WESLACO – Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner David L. Fuentes will be swearing in Judge Juan Alvarez, who has served for more than 22 years as a Municipal Judge, as interim Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Weslaco.

“We are fortunate to have a veteran jurist agree to serve as interim JP until a new election can select a new one,” Commissioner Fuentes said. “I want to acknowledge that Judge Alvarez is stepping in for Judge Jesus Morales who passed away earlier this year. Judge Morales faithfully served the county for 33 years and we appreciate his dedicated service.”

Judge Alvarez served for 15 years as a Municipal Judge in Mercedes and another seven years as a Weslaco Municipal Judge.  Before that, Alvarez served as a prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office as well as private practice.
