Warmer through Saturday, then turning cold

FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

  • THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY: Warmer, afternoons in the 60s
  • SUNDAY & NEXT WEEK: Much colder, hard freezes
  • MLK MARCH FORECAST: Cold (30s) with some sunshine
  • WINTRY PRECIPITATION: SLIGHT chance Tuesday

FORECAST

While the big story is a blast of cold air arriving Sunday, we will have a stretch of warmer days between now and then. Plan for comfortable afternoons in the 60s Thursday, Friday, and Saturday combined with vast sunshine. The colder air arrives Sunday and will be in place all next week.

NEXT WEEK’S COLD SNAP

The cold air arrives Sunday with a morning temperature around freezing and an afternoon high in the mid 40s with a gusty north wind. Then it gets even colder into the work week.

MONDAY – MLK MARCH:

Plan for a hard freeze or two next week with the first be ing Monday morning. The annual MLK March in San Antonio will be downright chilly with a sunrise temperature in the mid 20s, then warming into lower 40s toward the end of the march. At least we’ll have some sunshine, which helps when it’s that chilly.

The coldest day will be Tuesday as the temperature hovers around the mid 30s all day long, and not only that, but light precipitation is a possibility at that time. Otherwise, most of the week will feature daily high temperatures in the 40s, so this will NOT be like February of 2021.

WINTRY MIX POSSIBLE

Light precipitation is possible Monday night into Tuesday as a low pressure system develops along the Gulf Coast. As it stands now, a very light wintry mix is possible, but keep in mind it would be light, and it’s still too far out to have confidence in the model guidance. Actually, the latest guidance is trending away from wintry precipitation. The forecast will change between now and then, so check back for updates especially by this weekend. Food for thought, days before last Thursday’s rain event, the model guidance suggested a bunch of snow in San Antonio, but when the time came, it was just a cold rain (be careful what you see on social media).
