Warming shelters are open across North Texas.
DALLAS — The coldest air of the season is set to move in this week, bringing dangerously frigid temperatures.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens and single digits in North Texas by Wednesday and Thursday morning, with the potential for a light wintry mix Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Ahead of the weather’s arrival, warming shelters are open and some schools are rescheduling athletic events.
Fort Worth ISD rescheduled all district soccer games set for Tuesday to Monday, with the potential to move softball, baseball and middle school track meets as needed.
Here are some warming shelters open in North Texas during the cold snap.
Arlington
The Salvation Army location at 712 W. Abram Street is open with intake beginning at 7 p.m. and running through 10 p.m. According to the city’s website, IDs are required and meals will be served. Arlington library locations will also be open for warming during regular business hours. More information is available here .
Dallas
The Austin Street Center warming center at 2929 Hickory Street reached its 350-person capacity Saturday, necessitating the opening of a second shelter at Fair Park’s Grand Place Building, which can support another 900 people. Fort Worth
Several Fort Worth shelters will be open during the cold snap. If those shelters fill up, the city may activate an overflow shelter operated by When We Love. To see if the overflow shelter is activated, call 311 and press 9. Individuals can seek shelter at Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St. and Union Gospel Mission: 1321 E. Lancaster Ave.
Families can go to The Salvation Army shelter at 1855 E. Lancaster Ave. To stay at this location your household must include at least one parent and one child.
