I wrote earlier about the Just Stop Oil activists who stopped traffic and even tried to disrupt the British Open.
They didn’t care if a desperate mom said she needed to get to the hospital with her baby. They didn’t care about the obvious point people were making to them, that they were increasing emissions by blocking cars. But the audience at the Open certainly cheered–when they were taken away and off the course, with the help of American golfer Billy Horschel.
Climate activists think that their beliefs trump anyone else’s beliefs, jobs, babies, or any of the other things that you might be trying to do in your car when they block you. The activists don’t seem to care or perhaps even know how important oil is to everything we do, and is likely a part of all their clothes and the accessories that they’re sporting in these videos.
Most of the activists are young people who have been taken in by this. But then, there are people like this lady. This take is something else, “The fish in the pond are dying!!!”
Good for “Constable Wilson.” What kind of warning does she expect to get? She’s blocking the road, but she claims she’s been “illegally arrested.” The officer does a heroic job of keeping a stoic face as the woman laments about the poor fish. What is she carping about? You do the crime, you do the time. You don’t get a caring about the fish exemption.
How about caring about the woman and her baby, who are trying to get to the hospital, rather than a fish, who is perfectly fine? Also, maybe if your grandchild was coming, you should be preparing to take care of him rather than standing in the road blocking traffic. Some also noted that it’s been very chilly in that area, so they mocked that about her rant, too. She’s upset about being inconvenienced but doesn’t give a darn about inconveniencing others.
This is one of the folks behind these wild actions.
They’ve been out blocking the roads in London. People have clearly had enough of them.
But one group had the perfect response, and I had to laugh when I saw it.
A group of folks with similar orange shirts, but with a very different saying on them, surrounded some of the Just Stop Oil protesters to prevent them from going into the road. On their shirts, it said, “Just Stop Pissing People Off.”
The groups got into some heated debate; this was a more civil moment. One of the activists tried to explain their actions “We are the ordinary people and we’ve got the power.” No, the ordinary people are the folks you are trying to hold up and stand in the way of, and they’re telling you to stop it. The counterprotesters then asked why they don’t “stand for election” then. The response? “We don’t have time.” They’ve been saying that since the 1970s.
There were reports that the group may have involved YouTube pranksters, but the frustrated citizenry immediately embraced them on social media, even asking things like, “How can we join?” They may have just sparked a movement, and they far outnumber the activists, from the response on social media.
