Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) is known for having a way with words. In his new campaign ad, Kennedy highlighted the rise in crime in Louisiana, and he blasted the Democrats who called on defunding the police. Kennedy’s ad highlights that New Orleans is number one in the murder rate. In the midst of an increase in violent crime, in November 2020, the New Orleans police department budget was cut by $16 million.
At the end of the ad, Kennedy said:
“Look, if you hate cops just because they’re cops, the next time you get in trouble, call a crackhead,”
Of course, the Democrats watch this ad, and instead of thinking about how they could help reduce crime and hold criminals accountable, they claim that this ad is racist. They ignore the actual racist remarks from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and several racist remarks from then-Senator Biden to now-President Biden but claim Kennedy’s ad is racist.
Kennedy is expected to win his Senate race, and he has $15.8 million in hand compared to his opponent, Luke Mixon, who has $600 thousand. Another one of Kennedy’s opponents, far-left candidate Gary Chambers claimed Kennedy was “a walking dog whistle” following his crime ad.
“Progressive prosecutor” Jason Williams claimed:
“Being more selective about prosecutions will allow us to focus on the crimes that matter most to all of us. We’ve got to go beyond punishment and invest in our community.”
It is extremely important to invest in communities; however, going “beyond punishment” is clearly not working. Criminals must serve their time in prison, or they will repeat the same crime we see over and over again.
The “Metropolitan Crime Commission” responded to Williams’ claim, saying:
“We respectfully encourage the Williams administration to continue re-examining and modifying their prosecutorial philosophy with respect to violent and repeat felony offenders to better support the efforts of the NOPD to hold violent offenders accountable and to better provide public safety for all citizens.”
The report added that Williams’ actions have resulted in a “drastic decline in accountability for violent felony offenders.”
As politicians who tout defunding the police, some go as far as saying that we should abolish the police; they continue to have private security. The left does not even try to hide their hypocrisy anymore.
There was nothing racist about Kennedy’s ad. He stated that New Orleans has the highest murder rate in the U.S., and those who dislike the police just because they’re police officers should call a crackhead instead. He’s trying to make the point that defunding the police resulted in New Orleans having the highest murder rate. It has nothing to do with race or racism.
