EXTENDED FORECAST – An unseasonably cool cold front has finished pushing through the region and the cooler air will stick around through Friday and the weekend. Temperatures tonight are expected to fall into the upper 30s and low 40s for many. Clouds should be present Friday morning which will limit any kind of frost potential for much of the panhandles region with the exception of locations along and northwest of highway 54 in the northwest panhandles. Sensitive plants should be covered or brought in if wanting to protect them from frost potential. Highs on Friday will be mainly in the 50s and low 60s but Saturday will feature even colder temperatures due to abundant cloud cover and scattered to numerous rain showers. This chance for precipitation will keep highs in the 40s Saturday afternoon. Rain could start as early as midnight Friday night, but we think it will hold off until around sunrise Saturday. The southeast Texas panhandle is going to be best favored for the higher precipitation totals through the weekend. Two rounds of rain are expected. The first will be a broken band Saturday morning and then a more defined band of precipitation Saturday afternoon and evening. Rain totals where the main band moves through will range between 0.25 – 0.75″ with locally higher and lower amounts. The Oklahoma panhandle and far north Texas panhandle will likely miss the precipitation this weekend. A light frost or freeze is going to be possible Saturday night for areas along and north of I-40. Amarillo shouldn’t freeze but we will get very chilly Saturday night into the middle 30s. We will warm up moving into next week with highs right back into the lower 80s and some low rain chances towards the end of next week. Stay Weather Ready!
