El Origen Holistic Wellness Center in the Northside community had multiple windows shattered. Its owners are starting 2025 with costly repairs.
FORT WORTH, Texas — On New Year’s Day, a wellness studio in Fort Worth’s Northside community was vandalized.
Nathaly Castaneda is one of the owners of the family-run El Origen Holistic Wellness Center along Azle Ave. Castaneda said she arrived at the small business on the morning of New Year’s Day and found every window along the front of the business shattered.
The glass was scattered throughout her business, which provides yoga, meditation and sound bath classes.
“They definitely tried their best to get in here,” Castaneda said. “There was just glass everywhere, it was a big mess.”
Nothing inside the business was damaged or stolen, but the vandalism is costly, Castaneda said. She also said it was disheartening that a space meant for healing experienced the opposite.
Castaneda said she filed a police report with the Fort Worth Police Department. While the window’s metal barriers prevented anyone from entering, Castaneda said her family now has to replace several windows.
“There’s definitely a bit of a loss,” Castaneda said.
On Thursday, El Origen was closed. Castaneda and her family spent the afternoon sweeping shards of glass and boarding up windows. Appointments and yoga classes will be canceled while the business undergoes repairs.
“It’s definitely not the way we planned to start the year,” Castaneda said.
Despite the rough start to 2025, Castaneda remained optimistic.
“It was also a good reminder that’s why we’re here: to regulate ourselves and get through things,” Castaneda said. “It’s a good reminder that there’s duality. Life is what we make it, there’s no good or bad. Sometimes things are out of our control, and the only thing we can control is ourselves and how we react to those things.”
She’s living by the wellness tools she provides to others daily in order to overcome a setback of her own.
If you’d like to help Castaneda’s small business recover, El Origen Holistic Wellness Center will host a donation-based community meditation and sound bath on Friday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m.
