CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – West Texas A&M University has joined a statewide internet network that will improve the University’s internet capabilities.
Infrastructure updates were completed over the summer, tying WT into the Trans-Texas Digital Network (TTDN). The interactive communications network is a large part of The Texas A&M University System.
The high-speed fiberoptic network will provide WT staff and students with access to Internet2, a national high-speed network that provides cloud solutions, support and education services.
The upgrade will boost WT’s research and academic capabilities and ensure that users will not be restricted by bandwidth or bottlenecks in internet speed.
“We are truly facilitating WT’s vision of connecting the Panhandle to the world,” WT President Walter V. Wendler said. “This partnership exemplifies the implementation of quality and excellence in digital standards at WT.”
The connection with TTDN will help manage large-scale data, conducting complex computations and allow collaboration with research institutions around the world.
TTDN will also improve cybersecurity options and provide additional protection for digital assets and personal information.
The new network will help outside of the classroom as well, improving recreational internet use in the residence halls for activities such as gaming and streaming videos.
“Our mission is to foster advanced research, high-quality education and efficient collaboration through high-speed network connectivity for System members,” said Braly Beavers, TTDN executive director. “We are happy that we can extend that service to the WT community.”
