What to know about De’Aaron Fox, the new All-Star point guard for San Antonio Spurs

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs acquired De’Aaron Fox in a three-team trade for the first high-priced strike of the Victor Wembanyama era in San Antonio.

The 27-year-old joins forces with Wembanyama in a starting lineup in need of another offensive threat.

In late January, after the Sacramento front office informed Fox he would be placed on the trading block, Fox reportedly named San Antonio as his preferred landing spot.

It is safe to say that Fox isn’t the only high-profile player interested in playing with a generational talent like Wembanyama, but he is an ideal fit.

Fox leaves Sacramento as one of the greatest players in Kings history, sitting in the top 10 in most statistical categories, including points, assists and steals.

The point guard also helped the Kings end their longest playoff drought that existed across all four major North American sports in 2023 (17 years).

Fox will now attempt to lead the Spurs back into playoff contention. This time, Fox is exchanging center Domantis Sabonis for the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama — who Fox is on record praising the French sensation.

“He’s a special player, extremely special player,” Fox said of Wembanyama in a previous interview. “When he’s rolling, you have to be under him because, if they throw the ball up, there’s literally nothing you can do.”

Fox also has strong ties to the Alamo City as his wife, Recee Fox (Caldwell), is from the Alamo City. She attended Johnson High School.

De’Aaron and Recee have connections to SA Finest, an AAU basketball organization. They have greatly impacted the local high school basketball scene.

Last summer, Fox invited a trio of San Antonio ballers to his camp in Sacramento.

Spurs fans will not have to wait long to see Fox debut at Frost Bank Center. He will likely make his road debut in the Silver and Black on Wednesday when the Spurs face the Atlanta Hawks.
