The IH-635 East Project is building speed, and it continues to shake things up for drivers
DALLAS — Heads up, drivers!
The Interstate 635 East Project is building speed, and it continues to shake things up on on the interstate between U.S. 75 and Garland Road (State Highway 78). Expect some lane closures that will impact both eastbound and westbound traffic. These nightly disruptions will be in effect until Feb. 28, so plan your routes accordingly!
Ongoing construction will also affect daytime westbound traffic on I-635 from Royal Lane/Miller Road to Greenville Avenue.
Only the single right lane will be closed, but that seems to be all it takes to slow afternoon traffic down to a crawl along the approximately three-mile stretch of the interstate. Drivers should prepare for daytime delays until the end of March.

Starting Friday evening, Feb. 28 (weather permitting), all lanes of La Prada Drive at I-635 will be closed in both directions for about a year, lasting until early 2026. The changes also include:
- Eastbound / southbound I-635 exit to La Prada Drive
- All lanes along the eastbound I-635 frontage road between the Centerville entrance and La Prada Drive

Drivers can stay informed about the 635 East Project with a new text alert number. Those who have already signed up will continue to receive the same updates. For new subscribers, text “635 East” to 877-749-6638.

The I-635 East Project is a $1.74 billion construction initiative led by the Texas Department of Transportation. It’s designed to enhance mobility, operations, and safety along Interstate I-635 in Dallas County. The project covers an 11-mile stretch from North Dallas to Mesquite, starting just east of U.S. and ending at I-30.

Aerial photos showing the new stretches of pavement and lanes along I-635 were released by TxDOT in January.
