The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for reduced visibility due to a dust storm in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, with winds gusting up to 60 mph.
“Strong, gusty winds kick up blowing dust and dust storms in Texas this afternoon,” CSU/CIRA & NOAA wrote on X.
A blowing dust advisory remained in effect until 6 p.m. CST for west-central Texas. The NWS warned of hazardous driving conditions, damaging winds knocking down trees and power lines, and possible power outages, Storyful reported,
Ground stops were issued at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Tuesday afternoon due to strong winds and blowing dust, causing over 500 flight cancellations, Accuweather reported.
Air quality in San Antonio reached “unhealthy” levels late Tuesday afternoon with AQI dropped to 110.
The dust is expected to reach Houston by Tuesday evening or night as winds continue to push it eastward.
