DALLAS, Texas — Dallas Police have arrested and charged 36-year-old Antonio Banks with aggravated assault for attacking a woman in downtown Dallas.

According to Dallas County District Clerk Felicia Pitre, the woman worked for her office.

“I was shocked, and then when I found out it was my clerk, I was upset,” said Pitre.

Pitre said the woman is recovering at the hospital and once she’s checked out, she’ll enter a rehab facility. She said the woman suffered facial fractures. The Dallas Police Department said on Thursday, Sept. 12, officers responded to N. Field St. and Main St. to the report of a disturbance around 1:15 p.m.

Police said the woman was assaulted at that location and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. However, the police did not provide information on her condition.

Shocking video of the attack, provided by Downtown Dallas Inc., shows the suspect come up to the woman, unbeknownst to her, and strike her in the head with a blunt object.

“She’s standing there, helpless really, because when he attacked her, her back was turned. She didn’t even see him coming,” said Pitre.

An affidavit said Banks followed the woman for at least 10 minutes before he assaulted her with an unknown object.

Jennifer Scripps is the CEO and President of Downtown Dallas Inc. She said 35 security guards patrol downtown every day of the week. “Keep your wits about you always,” said Scripps. “This is a good reminder to all of us to always be looking out for our neighbors.”

Pitre said she’s working to start self-defense training classes with her employees. She said this is something that can happen to anyone at any time.

“We just take things for granted,” said Pitre.
