SAN ANTONIO – A woman is dead after she crashed her pickup truck into the back of an 18-wheeler stopped in the roadway, pinning it below the rig, according to San Antonio Police.
The crash occurred on Interstate 35 near O’Connor Road on the Northeast Side around 11:15 p.m.
According to a preliminary report from police, the 18-wheeler was stopped in the roadway because of lane closures along Interstate 35.
The woman’s truck crashed into the back of the 18-wheeler and burst into flames. The report said the woman could not escape from the vehicle.
San Antonio fire crews worked on the fire for over an hour, police said.
The crash caused a closure of the highway late Monday evening and into early Tuesday, according to Transguide.
The victim has not been identified. Initial reports indicated the victim was a man, but SAPD’s preliminary report said the driver of the pickup truck was a woman.
Police say the driver of the 18-wheeler is not facing any criminal charges at this time.
