Woman hit, killed by multiple cars on NE Side identified

SAN ANTONIO – Updated on Jan. 26:

The victim was identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as 51-year-old Erica Williams-McNeil.

Original Story:

A woman in her 30s is dead after being hit by several cars early Wednesday morning on the city’s Northeast Side, according to Universal City police.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on FM 78 just east of Pat Booker Road, not far from JBSA-Randolph.

According to police, the woman was walking along FM 78 trying to cross the road in a dark area when she was struck by as many as four or five cars.

Police said two of the initial drivers who hit her stopped and tried to help and render aid. The woman, however, died at the scene.

Universal City police say the two drivers who did stop likely were the first ones to have hit her. It’s possible the other drivers didn’t even know they ran the woman over, police said.

No charges are expected to be filed. The woman killed has not been identified, but police believe she may have been homeless.

Authorities say the westbound lanes of FM 78 will remain closed in the area for a few hours, as emergency crews work at the scene. Only one eastbound lane is presently open.
