Woman sentenced to 35 years in prison for shooting, killing man during robbery on West Side

SAN ANTONIO – A 21-year-old woman was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday in connection with a robbery that escalated into a deadly shooting.

Mariah Cabrera was convicted of murder in the March 2023 shooting of David Rezentes, according to Bexar County court records.

San Antonio police said Cabrera and Jayveon Johnson, 23, organized a drug deal online and arranged a meeting with Rezentes in the 3200 block of El Paso Street on the West Side of San Antonio.

When Rezentes arrived at the location, police said Cabrera and Johnson robbed him.

During the robbery, Cabrera fired multiple gunshots at Rezentes, which ultimately led to his death, authorities previously said.

SAPD detectives used leads and video surveillance to identify Cabrera and Johnson as the suspects after the crime.

“The defendant acted without regard for David’s life when the defendant, along with others, made the decision to rob them. Our office will continue to advocate for victims of violent crime,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a news release.

Johnson was charged with murder. His trial starts in January.
